    Gugangseowon Confucian Academy
    The Seowon (Confucian Academy) was a place for educating Confucian scholars during the Joseon period including through lecture, enlightenment and ancestral rites. Gugangseowon Confucian Academy enshrines the ancestral tablets of Jeong Mongju and Yi Eonjeok. The Hyangrye (rite of drinking) is held to commemorate the merit and virtue of these two ancestors every spring and autumn. Is it not worthy of being a real space for history education?

    Chunguisa Shrine enshrines and performs the sacrificial rite for the tablets of unidentified soldiers dying in defense of the country and the tablets of 214 patriotic martyrs fighting against the Japanese invasion in 1592. The exhibition hall in the shrine displays a chronicle of combat, royal edicts and the armory during the Japanese invasion of 1592.

    Ulsan Japanese Fortress (Hakseong Park)
    Ulsan Japanese Fortress is the place where Kato Kiyosama resided during the Japanese invasion in 1597. It is said that it was built after destroying the fortress and military headquarters walls. It shows the unique construction method of the Japanese fortress, which set the corners by engaging a long stone with a short stone. Even in spite of the tragic history, a beautiful park filled with camellia flowers and cherry blossoms can be enjoyed in this fortress.

    Oesol Memorial Hall displays the artifacts and research results of Master Oesol Choi Hyeonbae, the Hangeul scholar who loved Korean characters enough to say that Hangeul is life. It includes the theater showing the life of Master Oesol, who devoted his entire life for Korean independence, research on Hangeul, and an experience space for children. The 2nd floor reproduces the house where Master Oesol was born.

    Yaksa-dong Embankment is evaluated as an important artifact that shows the civil engineering and construction technology of the early Unified Silla period (6th~7th century), as the embankment built on the Yaksacheon River. The Exhibition Hall displays a cross section of the embankment 26m wide and 8m high and farm tools including water pumps.

    Ulsan Gyeongsangjwado Military Headquarters is a fortress about 1.2km in circumference and about 3.7m high built in the 17th year of King Taejong’s reign. It had gates with 3-column gate towers in four directions, and wells, ditches and depots inside when it was built. The fortress facilities were damaged when the Japanese soldiers built their fortress during Japanese invasion in 1597, and are now restored at present. Walk along the fortress trail while overlooking the downtown, and the stresses of daily life completely disappear
