Fortress controlled by Gyeongsang Jwado Byeongma Jeoljesayeong (commander)

The fortress was controlled by Gyeongsang Jwado Byeongma Jeoldosa. It was built in 1417 (17th year of King Taejong’s reign during the Joseon period). It is about 1.2km in circumference and about 3.7m high. It is oval in shape. There was a fortress gate with a gate tower in three Kans in four directions when it was built. The round fortress was built around the west gate and the north gate. The convex-shaped structure was built in a number of places on the fortress wall. The moat surrounded the fortress. It is said that there was a well, a gutter and a storehouse inside the fortress in the past. However, as Japanese soldiers took stones from the fortress and built Ulsan Japanese Fortress during Japanese invasion in 1592 and 1597, the fortress lost its shape. There were only traces indicating that there had been a fortress due to the city development in modern times. The fortress has since been restored.
