      Samhan Period Part of Jinhan, formation of the Gurahwachon Village
      Three Kingdoms Dynasty Established as Gurahwahyeon during the reign of King Pasa, the 5th king of Silla
    • Goryeo Dynasty
      Taejo Combined the three hyeon of Hagok, Dongjin, and Wupung, elevating them to Heungryebu
      14th Year of King Seongjong (995 AD) Also known as Hakseong
    • Joseon Dynasty
      13th Year of King Taejong (1413 AD) Renamed to Ulsan-gun
      32nd Year of King Seonjo (1599 AD) Elevated to Ulsan Dohobu
      32nd Year of King Gojong (1895 AD) Renamed back to Ulsan-gun
    • Modern Era
      Oct. 1, 1910 With the implementation of the Myeon system, Ulsan-myeon of Ulsan-gun was established
      1914. Unified Eonyang-gun into Ulsan-gun
      Nov. 1, 1931 Ulsan-myeon was promoted to Ulsan-eup
    • Contemporary Era
      Jan. 27, 1962 Declared as a Ulsan Specific Industrial Zone
      Jun. 1, 1962 Ulsan elevated to city status, Ulsan-gun renamed as Ulju-gun
      Sept. 1, 1982 Hakseong-dong divided into Hakseong-dong and Banggu-dong (15 dongs)
      Jul. 15, 1985 Implementation of the gu system in Ulsan (Opening of Jung-gu Office - 15 dongs)
      Oct. 20, 1990 Jung-gu Office relocated from 123 Haksan-dong to 180-1 Boksan-dong, Jung-gu
      Jan. 20, 1992 Banggu-dong divided into Banggu 1-dong and Banggu 2-dong (16 dongs)
      Sept. 20, 1992 Byeongyeong-dong divided into Byeongyeong 1-dong and Byeongyeong 2-dong (17 dongs)
      Jan. 1, 1995 Si (city) and gun (county) integrated to form the city of Ulsan
      Mar. 2, 1995 Boksan-dong divided into Boksan 1-dong and Boksan 2-dong, Taehwa-dong into Taehwa-dong and Daun-dong (19 dongs)
      Jul. 15, 1997 Launch of Jung-gu of Ulsan Metropolitan City as an autonomous district (14 dongs). The previous Jung-gu areas of Songjeong-dong, Hyomun-dong, Jinjang-dong, and Yangjeong-dong were transferred to Buk-gu, and Yeompo-dong was transferred to Dong-gu
      Jan. 1, 2009 Integration of Okgyo-dong and Seongnam-dong to Jungang-dong (13 dongs)
